My teeth are getting loose

Characteristics and what to look for:

Tooth mobility is generally difficult to detect unless it is at an advanced stage. Proper, early diagnosis by a dental professional is essential in determining the underlying cause for your tooth mobility.

Causes of loose teeth

  • Clenching and grinding

  • Periodontal disease

  • Orthodontic treatment (may cause temporary mobility)

  • The way your teeth bite together

  • Trauma

Treatment and how we can help:

Loose teeth can make chewing uncomfortable. The most important decision in managing tooth mobility is determining the cause. The most common reason for loose teeth is periodontal disease.  Periodontal disease is an infection of the supporting structures around the teeth that results in bone loss and decreased tooth support. If allowed to progress, bone loss with continue, leading to increased tooth mobility. There are many different treatments for periodontal disease and its important to consult with your periodontist to determine which treatment is best for you.
